About
Hi! We're Art and
Lesley Guzman, the owners of Maui
Smokehouse BBQ. We have tons of experience putting
together all kinds of parties and events in many different locations,
from backyards to corporate parties to baseball games. With the

Art
Art was born and raised in the Santa Maria Valley. His culinary
talent revealed itself at an early age, and by the time he became a
senior at Righetti High School, he was working full-time as a BBQ cook at the
Famous Far Western Tavern in Guadalupe. After a few years trying his
hand in the newspaper biz in Idaho, Iowa, and Los Angeles, Art
returned to the Far Western as its General Manager. |
Art's love of cooking and restaurants
has led him to work as general or commissary manager at the popular
Joshua’s in Paso Robles, the Basque House in Guadalupe, the Sea
Venture in Pismo Beach, and the historic Santa Maria Inn. However, he
is perhaps best known locally for his skill as the Far Western caterer
for over a decade and for making the Santa Maria Noontime Kiwanis Club
famous for its incredible BBQ.
Lesley
Art calls Lesley "the one who's made it all possible." He had
always dreamed of owning his own restaurant, but it just didn't happen
until he met this vivacious go-getter from the Hill Country of Texas,
where barbeque means smoked, not grilled.A recovering vegetarian, Lesley has a
BA in English, with an emphasis in Medieval British Literature. (Ask
her anything about it! We dare you!) She's had a variety of jobs
working in fast food, managing bookstores, and serving as a
commercial/agricultural insurance agent.
Recently, Lesley has taken time out
from her professional life to care for an ailing parent and be a
stay-at-home mom for the couple's two kids. She sees opening Maui
Smokehouse BBQ as a way to keep business and family life
balanced.
